Karen May Bio

I grew up in a home where my mother cooked 3 meals a days.  She would cook everything for chicken and dumplings, chopped BBQ, beef stew and seafood gumbo to name a few of her dishes. Please don’t get me started on her sweet potatoes pies, banana pudding and German chocolate cakes. I found the love of cooking at the age of 12 and started to try and make cakes just based on how I saw my mother prepare them.  I didn’t measure out any ingredients just eyeballed everything so you can image how that cake came out of the oven. As I continued to use all of my mother’s flour, sugar, eggs and butter, she finally let me be her assistance in the kitchen. I then started making breakfast for my sisters and then lunch. I never knew that I wanted to be a chef. I just knew I love to cook. As I got older and started off my career in the corporate world and started a family.  The love for cooking and now entertaining grew stronger and stronger.  My focus was on getting my children through college and continuing to be successful in my leadership role at Cablevision. My daughter had complete college and my son was entering college, so this was my time to enter culinary school.  I worked full time during the day and attended culinary school in the evening from 6:00p.m.-11:00p.m. Monday-Thursday.  My days were extremely long but so worth it.  I graduated with high honor October 2015.  I was also awarded 2015 Women in Cable Telecommunications. I attended bartender’s academy and completed 40 hours of training and received my TIP (training for intervention procedures) certification. I have also worked closely with the WBDC (Women’s Business Development Council) my goal is to retire from Cablevision and focus on my dream full time. I am also looking forward to encouraging Women of all ages to go after their dreams.
